Importance of Proper Feeding

Food is important for all living things including fishes too! There are a lot of brands of fish food available in a fish store but mst importat is to identify the fish food that contains the necessary nutrients and minerals needed to keep your fish strong and healthy. Without such, your fish will be restless, exhibiting pale colors or not interested in eating anything.

Good fish food does not necessary mean expensive. It is more of value for money than anything else. Often, most fish food contains ash rather than proper contents for fish food. A good fish food should contain what the particular fish specie need such as vegetable, meat, krill, spirulina, etc.

These 2 brands of fish food from Germany has good contents and value for money. JBL & Sera

Introducing New Fishes Into Your Tank

1) Buy fish from local fish shop

2) Bring it home

3) Leave the bag of fishes in your fish tank, let it float on the water so that the temperature can be adjusted to the same. Leave for 10 -15mins

4) Open bag and scoop fish into tank

** For more sensitive fishes, usually the more expensive ones, drip tank water into the fish bag to adjust the ph to be the same as the tank. Introduce fish about 30mins after dripping

** We usually do not add the fish bag's water into our own tank in fear of any diseases or harmful elements in the bag.

Its been a couple of days since our website is down. Finally its up and running.

We will be updating the site with new products and livestock as soon as we receive them.

We'll like to extend our heartest thank you to each and every customer for your warm support since we took over the little cosy store 2 weeks ago. We strive to serve everyone to our best and hope everyone can enjoy the hobby as much as possible.

Update:

1) Our desktop tank sets are currently sold out. New sets will be available from Wednesday 5th August onwards.

2) Fishes and other livestock will arrive by Thursday 6th August. (Every Wednesday / Thursday)

Importance of Water Conditioner

Many people who have aquariums, often forgot about adding water conditioners before adding tap water into their beloved aquarium. Fishes and other invertebrates are pretty sensitive to chlorine and toxic heavy metals present in the water.

Water conditioners immediately bind harmful heavy metal ions and neutralises aggressive chlorine.

Sera Aquatan is ideal for reducing stress during transport and introduction of fish.
It protects the mucous membrane of the fish due to its valuable vitamin B complex and skin protecting colloids.

Sera Toxivec/Aquatuner contains the innovative QuickClean Formula and immediately removes dangerous pollutants threatening fish and filter bacteria from the aquarium water. For aquariums with higher pollution levels, a higher dosage of Sera Toxivec/Aquatuner should be added 1 or 2 hours after the 1st dosage.

I often share that a bottle of water conditioner could save the lives of our beloved fish, rather than save this little expense and endangers our beloved little fish.

Attention Turtle Keepers

I've received many enquiries on the poor health of turtles, like being restless, shell is soft or eye is swollen.

Following are common illness and remedies:

1) Soft Shell

- One mineral block should be placed in the water for the turtle to absorb calcium and minerals to strengthen their shell

- This should be placed after every water change

- Good food should be given. Beware of lesscommon brands as most food contain a lot of ash and not proper well-balanced diet with vegetables, fish meat and krill

2) Swollen Eye

- Resulted in Mosquito bite

- Use turtle eye drops to cure

3) Restless

- Lack of mates, lonely

- Lack of water area and dry area

The REAL Garra Rufa aka Doctor / Spa Fish

Doctor Fish

Garra rufa has been known for over four hundred years as “Doctor fish”. In its natural habitat this fish feeds on small organisms that live within these thermal springs. However, in these hot springs, few organisms thrive and food for this fish is scarce. They have thus evolved to be curious creatures that would nibble on anything foreign introduced into the water in the hope of food. While nibbling, the fish exude a unique enzyme called dithranol (anthralin) which prevents fast development of cells from the skin, thereby alleviating Psoriasis.

Garra rufa is legally protected from commercial exploitation in Turkey due to concerns of over harvesting for export. As such this fish is not often seen in the aquarium trade.

The unscrupulous.

Recently, the healing properties of Garra rufa has been abused by unscrupulous businesses looking to deceive the public and cash-in on the hype. A quick search on the internet will show up a number of online hits claiming to be suppliers of “Garra rufa” especially from China. However, upon close observation, these fish end up being nothing like the real Garra rufa itself!
Most of what is on offer, seems to be juvenile Oreochromis niloticus (or hybrids of). Oreochromis niloticus is commonly known as common Tilapia in Malaysia! As hungry juvenile tilapia, this fish would swim in large numbers and would be bold enough to nibble on the arms and feet of people. However, no healing properties have ever been recorded from this species of fish nibbling on skin.

They are a much researched species of fish in Turkey and is postulated to aid in healing of skin diseases and disorders, one of which is psoriasis1-3, where a cure is yet to be found.

This fish supposedly simultaneously releases some unknown enzymatic secretion and dithranol, a component of dermatological creams to enhance the skin condition by normalizing its pH and helps new skin cells regenerate a little faster than usual.

The only side effect of this is Laughter and Beauty in its native form.
